Siding FAQ
How long does siding installation take? +
Most single-family homes take 3–7 days depending on size, complexity, and material. We'll give you a detailed timeline with your estimate.
What's the difference between James Hardie and vinyl siding? +
James Hardie is fiber cement — harder, more fire-resistant, and holds paint longer. Vinyl is lower cost and low-maintenance, but dents more easily. Both are excellent depending on your budget and priorities.
Do you do siding repairs or only full replacements? +
We do both. If damage is isolated, a repair is often the smart choice. We'll honestly advise you on whether repair or replacement makes better economic sense.
Is there a warranty on your installation labor? +
Yes — all our labor carries a workmanship warranty. Combined with the manufacturer's product warranty, you're fully covered.

Rain Gutters & Drainage

Seamless gutters custom-fabricated on-site. Protect your foundation, landscaping, and siding from Utah's heavy snowmelt and rain.

Seamless Custom Gutters

Unlike sectional gutters that leak at every joint, our seamless gutters are rolled from a single piece of metal to fit your home's exact dimensions. Fewer leaks, better performance, and a cleaner look.

  • Aluminum — lightweight, rust-free, 30+ colors
  • Steel — stronger, ideal for heavy snow loads
  • Copper — premium, develops a natural patina
  • K-style and half-round profiles available
  • Gutter guard systems available
  • Same-day installation on most homes
Seamless Gutters
Rain Gutter FAQ
How often should gutters be replaced? +
Aluminum gutters typically last 20–30 years. Steel and copper can last longer. Signs you need replacement: visible rust, sagging, separating joints, or water damage along the fascia.
What size gutters do I need? +
Most homes use 5" gutters with 2×3" downspouts. Large roofs or high-rainfall areas benefit from 6" gutters and 3×4" downspouts. We'll recommend the right size during your estimate.
Do you install gutter guards? +
Yes. We carry several gutter guard systems to minimize maintenance. Ask about them when you call for an estimate.

Roofing Installation & Replacement

We install asphalt shingles, metal roofing, and more — backed by the same professional crews and quality standards we've delivered since 1980.

  • Architectural asphalt shingles
  • Standing seam metal roofing
  • Class 4 impact-resistant shingles (insurance discounts!)
  • Full tear-off and replacement
  • New construction roofing
  • Ice and water shield for Utah's freeze-thaw
Gray asphalt shingle roof with gable dormers
Standing Seam & Metal Roofing Systems
A premium, long-lasting alternative to asphalt. We source steel, aluminum, and standing seam metal roofing through ABC Supply from leading manufacturers like McElroy Metal, Central States Manufacturing, and Metal Sales Manufacturing.
40–70 Year Lifespan
Metal roofing routinely outlasts asphalt shingles 2–3x over, with many systems carrying 40-year to lifetime limited warranties.
Superior Snow-Shedding
Standing seam panels shed Utah's heavy snow loads efficiently, reducing ice dam risk and structural stress in winter.
Energy-Efficient
Reflective coatings bounce solar heat away from your home, helping lower cooling costs during hot Utah summers.
Class A Fire Rating
Metal roofing carries the highest fire-resistance rating available, an important consideration near Utah's wildland-urban interface.
New Construction Roofing

Building a new home? We work directly with builders, general contractors, and framers to install code-compliant roofing systems on schedule — from permit-ready shingle installs to full metal roof systems.

  • Direct coordination with builders and framing crews
  • Code-compliant installation for permits and inspections
  • Full manufacturer warranty registration on new builds
  • Volume pricing available for builders and developers
Full Roof Tear-Off & Replacement

When repair isn't enough, we handle full tear-off and replacement from start to finish — including deck inspection and repair, ice and water shield installation, and cleanup.

  • Free roof inspection and damage assessment
  • Complete tear-off and haul-away of old roofing
  • Roof deck inspection and repair as needed
  • Ice and water shield for Utah's freeze-thaw cycles
  • Assistance navigating storm-damage insurance claims
Roofing FAQ
How do I know if I need a repair or a full replacement? +
It depends on the extent and age of the damage. Isolated leaks or a few damaged shingles can often be repaired, while widespread wear, multiple leaks, or a roof nearing the end of its warranty life usually calls for full replacement. We offer free inspections to help you decide.
How long does a roof replacement take? +
Most residential asphalt shingle replacements are completed in 1–3 days, weather permitting. Metal roofing and larger or more complex roofs may take longer.
Do you help with insurance claims for storm damage? +
Yes. We provide detailed damage documentation and can work directly with your insurance adjuster to help support your claim for hail, wind, or other storm damage.
Is metal roofing worth the extra upfront cost? +
For many homeowners, yes — metal roofing typically lasts 2–3x longer than asphalt shingles, sheds Utah's heavy snow loads better, and can lower long-term costs despite a higher initial price. We're happy to walk through the lifetime cost comparison for your home.
Can you install roofing on a new home during construction? +
Yes — we regularly coordinate with builders and general contractors on new construction projects, ensuring roofing is installed on schedule and fully code-compliant for inspections.

Permanent Lighting FAQ
How is permanent lighting different from string lights? +
Permanent lighting is professionally mounted in a discreet track along your roofline and stays in place year-round. You control color and brightness from an app, so there's no annual hanging or removal.
Can I use it for things other than the holidays? +
Yes — most homeowners run a warm white or soft accent color the rest of the year, then switch to holiday colors, team colors, or event-specific scenes whenever they'd like.
How long does installation take? +
Most homes are completed in a single day. Installation timing depends on the length of roofline and complexity of the trim work.
Is it weatherproof for Utah winters? +
Yes. The fixtures and wiring are rated for outdoor use year-round, including snow, freezing temperatures, and wind.

Vinyl Siding FAQ
How long does vinyl siding last? +
Quality vinyl siding like Alside's Charter Oak carries a lifetime limited warranty. With proper installation, you can expect 30–50 years of performance with virtually zero maintenance.
Can vinyl siding be installed in Utah's climate? +
Absolutely. Alside vinyl siding is engineered to handle extreme temperature swings, UV exposure, and moisture — all common in Northern Utah. The Charter Oak line is even rated for hurricane-force winds.
How does vinyl siding compare to James Hardie? +
Vinyl is generally more affordable and completely maintenance-free (no painting ever). James Hardie fiber cement offers a more premium look and higher fire resistance. We install both — our team can help you decide which is best for your home and budget.
Does vinyl siding come in different colors? +

What is the cost of vinyl siding installation? +
Pricing varies based on home size, product selection, and site conditions. Wasatch Siding provides free, no-obligation estimates. Contact us and we'll give you a detailed quote for your specific project.

Wood & Cedar Siding FAQ
How long does cedar siding last? +
Properly installed and maintained Shakertown cedar siding can last 30+ years. Western Red Cedar naturally resists rot and insects, and factory-applied finishes extend the interval between refinishing.
Does cedar siding need much maintenance? +
Cedar requires more upkeep than vinyl or fiber cement — periodic re-staining or sealing (typically every 3–7 years depending on exposure and finish) keeps it looking its best and protects the wood.
Is cedar siding fire-rated? +
Yes. Shakertown's Dolly Varden panels are California State Fire Marshal Listed and meet ASTM E2707/E2957 Wildland Urban Interface standards plus ASTM E84 Class A flame spread — an important consideration in Utah's wildfire-prone foothill areas.
How does cedar compare to vinyl or James Hardie siding? +
Cedar offers a natural look and texture that manufactured products can only imitate, but it costs more upfront and needs periodic refinishing. Vinyl and fiber cement are lower-maintenance. Our team can help you weigh look, budget, and upkeep for your home.
Can cedar panels be used for interiors and soffits too? +
Yes — Dolly Varden and Kokanee panels are engineered for siding, soffits, and interior accent walls, so we can carry a consistent cedar look from your home's exterior into covered porches or interior spaces.

L.P. SmartSide FAQ
How is LP SmartSide different from real wood siding? +
LP SmartSide is engineered from strand-based wood and treated with LP's SmartGuard process, giving it better resistance to moisture, fungal decay, and termites than traditional solid wood siding, while still holding paint and installing like wood.
What warranty comes with LP SmartSide? +
LP backs SmartSide siding with a 5/50-Year Limited Warranty, covering material defects with enhanced coverage in the first five years.
Does LP SmartSide need to be painted? +
Yes, it should be primed and painted after installation (some products come factory-primed), and it's known for holding paint longer than traditional wood siding.
How does LP SmartSide compare to James Hardie fiber cement? +
Both are engineered, low-maintenance alternatives to solid wood. Fiber cement is cement-based and non-combustible, while SmartSide is wood-based, generally lighter and easier to install, and gives a slightly more traditional wood texture.

Copper Gutter FAQ
How much do copper gutters cost compared to aluminum? +
Copper gutters typically cost 3–5x more than aluminum, but they last 3–5x longer and require no maintenance. Over a lifetime, they often prove more cost-effective — and they add measurable resale value to your home.
Will copper gutters turn green? +
Yes — over 5–10 years copper naturally oxidizes from a bright penny color through brown tones and eventually to the classic blue-green patina (verdigris). Many homeowners love this process, but if you prefer to maintain the original copper look, a clear lacquer coating can slow it down.
Are copper gutters right for Utah's climate? +
Absolutely. Copper performs exceptionally well in Utah's freeze-thaw cycles, heavy snowmelt, and summer heat. It's naturally resistant to temperature-related cracking and expansion issues that affect lesser materials.
Can copper gutters be combined with other materials? +
Copper should not be paired directly with aluminum or steel — the dissimilar metals cause galvanic corrosion over time. All hangers, fasteners, and downspout components should also be copper or stainless steel.

Soffit & Fascia FAQ
What is the difference between soffit and fascia? +
Soffit is the horizontal surface that covers the underside of your roof overhang — the part you see when you look up at your eaves. Fascia is the vertical board that runs along the edge of the roofline and holds the gutters. Together they seal and protect your roofline from moisture, pests, and weather damage.
Why is proper soffit ventilation important in Utah? +
Utah's extreme temperature swings create significant attic heat and moisture buildup. Properly vented soffit allows cool outside air to flow in under the eaves and push hot, humid air out through ridge vents — reducing energy costs, preventing ice dams in winter, and stopping mold and rot year-round.
How long does aluminum soffit last? +
Alside Aluminum HT Soffit is backed by a lifetime limited transferable warranty. Unlike wood, it won't rot, warp, or need repainting. Most aluminum soffit installations last 40–50+ years with virtually no maintenance required.
Can you match soffit color to my existing siding? +
Yes — Alside's ColorConnect® Color Matching System provides exact color formulations so your soffit coordinates perfectly with your Alside siding, gutters, and trim. We carry 18 colors to match nearly any home exterior.
Do you install fascia as well as soffit? +
Yes. Wasatch Siding installs both soffit and fascia as a complete roofline package. We also handle all related trim work to give your home a clean, finished look from every angle.

Asphalt Shingle FAQ
How long do asphalt shingles last? +
Standard 3-tab shingles typically last 20–25 years, while architectural/dimensional shingles from brands like GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed carry warranties ranging from 30 years to lifetime limited coverage.
What's the difference between 3-tab and architectural shingles? +
3-tab shingles are flat, uniform, and budget-friendly. Architectural (dimensional) shingles are laminated with multiple layers for a thicker, textured, more dimensional look, along with better wind resistance and longer warranties.
What is a Class 4 impact-resistant shingle? +
Class 4 is the highest UL 2218 impact rating, meaning the shingle resists cracking from hail impact. Many insurance carriers offer premium discounts for Class 4 roofs — ask your agent, and ask us about Class 4 options like TAMKO Titan XT or Atlas StormMaster.
Why do some roofs get dark streaks over time? +
Those streaks are typically caused by algae (Gloeocapsa magma), not dirt. Most modern shingle lines include algae-resistant granules — like GAF StainGuard Plus or CertainTeed StreakFighter — to help prevent this discoloration.
How does asphalt shingle cost compare to metal roofing? +
Asphalt shingles are generally the most affordable roofing material upfront, while metal roofing costs more initially but can last significantly longer. Wasatch Siding installs both — we can help you compare lifetime cost and performance for your home.
